Ceramic fibre blanket reduces heat flow through the outside of a pizza oven chamber. It serves a different role from the refractory firebox and the rain-resistant finish. Plan the insulation thickness, retention and protective enclosure together when drawing the dome assembly.
Allow space for the complete build-up
Vitcas ceramic fibre blanket can follow the curved exterior of a compatible chamber. Do not squeeze the specified thickness into a narrow space left after building the outer enclosure. Compression changes the arrangement on which the design was based.
Draw the dome, entrance and flue interface. Insulation continuity matters at these details as well as across the main surface. Keep the external insulation separate from food preparation surfaces and the open firebox as required by the oven design.
Specify fixing and the reinforced exterior
For compatible oven assemblies, the manufacturer identifies Ceramic Fibre Adhesive for holding the fibrous insulation in place. Follow its substrate preparation and application requirements. Adhesive and mesh have separate roles: one helps retain the blanket, while the other supports the specified outer layer.
In a suitable system, insulation covered with reinforcing mesh can receive Outdoor Oven Cement. Establish the complete finishing detail before starting. A thin decorative coating cannot be assumed to replace the required protective layer.
Protect the insulation during fitting and use
Store the material as instructed and consult the current safety data sheet before cutting. Installed blanket should be retained and enclosed rather than left loose and exposed to wind, moisture and mechanical damage.
At handover, check terminations around the base, entrance and flue. Open edges or water paths are easy to miss there. Keep photographs of the successive layers so a later inspection can establish how the insulation was installed without removing the whole enclosure.
